It is said that a long time ago, around
January 1672, a powerful pirate's fleet (twenty seven ships), was heading
towards Santa Cruz. From the sea came the plunder, the slay, the violation
of women and the destruction by fire of chapels and churches.
Without human resources powerful enough to stop the coming tragedy, the people of Santa Cruz, turned to Good, showing their faith and trust derived by their anguish. Only Good could save them from that terrifying moment. So they ran to the church and grabbing the image of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, their patroness, headed for the harbour. The faith shown by the people of Santa Cruz was so overwhelming and intense that the sea became, instantaneously, enraged, creating giant and frightening waves, forcing the evil pirates to retreat and flee. God intervened, He witnessed the faith of his people. The Miracle came true. |
