The Skull's Tale | |
It is said that a long time ago, around the
sixteenth century, a hungry and soaked survivor from a shipwreck, named
Demétrio, appeared in this place. The entire population helped him, by
giving food, clothes and specially love. Facing such intense
demonstrations of brotherhood, Demétrio thought that neighbours like
these would be very hard to find anywhere else.
Although he was catholic, he did not believe that places like Hell and purgatory existed, in fact he did not even believe in the prayers honouring the deceased. He died facing these doubts. Later, in the same place, a brilliant skull appeared at the top of the mountain, screaming over and over again that everybody should pray for the redemption of his or her soul. Thus, the population of that small village, prayed for God's mercy. It was then that the skull, unexpectedly, disappeared, but its legend still lives in people's minds and in the place where it appeared. |
